D. ANAYA

These are hand-forged, multifunctional tools for the (healers) in our communities. Our society will need as many of us with the capability to see and help ourselves and others move through trauma into the self-healing experience that is delicately and intricately laced into each of our futures.

The healer’s double-ended spoon and vessels were created using only the materials that our ancestors had access to: Earth/Wood, Air, Fire, Water, and Metal (Iron). The spoon end includes a partially serrated edge to cull out infection. The handle carries a small dagger to cut open infected areas. The small hand-built clay vessels are intended to hold water to cleanse, medicine to heal, or the poison that infects us.

I believe that in order to truly heal what deeply ails us, we need to return to the methods of natural healing, rootwork and connecting to our ancestors' magic that we carry within. This piece in particular is meant to honour my roots and family that resides in Ghana to the present day.
