INDIA SKY DAVIS

The heart of this piece is in the round bottle; an essence of the North Star I created on the new moon in Sagittarius December 14th 2020 at my mother’s home in Oconahua in Jalisco Mexico. In rural Mexico the night sky is abundant. I prayed under the stars for weeks, teaching myself to identify the constellations and to find the North Star (there’s a map to locate the north star in the bottle top if you don’t know how to find it). I needed guidance, and felt that the world needed it too.

The North Star was a beacon towards freedom for my ancestors who were enslaved, and a guide to safe harbor for my ancestors who sailed the seas. I asked the North Star to bless this water, to help guide us all to a powerful and just future, to tap into the gifts we have to share with the world, and to remind us that we belong to legacies that are profoundly beautiful and brilliant like the night sky.
